Traditional Pattern

I always feel envious to see traditional cross stitch patterns published in the magazines or sold in the craft shops. There are lots of geisha, washi doll, matryoshka doll, hungarian motifs, dutch windmill, african dancer, you name it. I had never seen a cross stitch motif or theme of Indonesia. That is why I fell in love with this Balinese Pendet Dancer cross stitch kit since I first saw it.

Pendet is a traditional dance from Bali, Indonesia, in which offerings are made to purify the temple or theater as a prelude to ceremonies or other dances. Pendet is typically performed by young girls, carrying bowls of flower petals, handfuls of which are cast into the air at various times in the dance. Pendet can be thought of as a dance of greeting, to welcome the audience and invite spirits to enjoy a performance.

Here's the result so far. Two things left : gold stitches and backstitches.

Actually, there are 6 patterns available. But, I need to save some money first to buy the other 5.

  6. @Cassle : I don't know about cross stitch supply shops in Jakarta.
I always go to Hobby Craft here in Bandung :-)
    Maybe you could browse http://www.123stitch.com/
for the fabric you need and see the price (as far as I know, they have a competitive price). You can compare it to the price from Hobby Craft.

I have done the same back when Hobby Craft didn't have the fabric I needed.

    @mariaa : you're welcome
    it's been my pleasure...

  7. Umm, how about the shipping fee?? And how long did it take to arrive at your front door?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yup Cass, you'll have to add up shipping cost to the goods price, then compare it to the Hobby Craft price.
They say they ship within 2 weeks.
Mine arrived less than 10 days...
Well, compared to the waiting time if I purchased from Hobby Craft that time (about 1 month), it was worth waiting for :-)

  9. I think I prefer Lugana than Linen because I see that it's easier to work with. They sell 25 Ct. Antique White Lugana 18x13 for $5.15 and DMC Tapestry Needles size 28 (5 pcs) for $1.09. The shipping and handling $5.99, so the total is $12.23.

It's not really cheap but yet quite affordable. Since you have tried it before, I think it's worth to try. Do you know what's an Order Confirmation Number for?

I just proceed to the checkout, log in with my PayPal, but they haven't cut my balance yet?

  11. @Cassle : the Order Confirmation Number can be used to track your order progress, you can e-mail the online store and give them the numbers as the reference.

@Nan : I can't wait to finish it. I'll post the pic soon.
